Rude?

Is it rude to type someone's name in a message with a lower case initial?

Officially yes but as it’s common practice now, probably no.

lifeinthehills · 04/02/2023 23:45

It's not proper form and I wouldn't do it, but honestly, I wouldn't read too much into it. It's probably just being lazy.

DuplicateUserName · 04/02/2023 23:50

I mean it's wrong obviously but rude?

Nope, never heard of that.

TigerDroveAgain · 04/02/2023 23:53

Yes, that's rude: looks like you don't care

blacksax · 05/02/2023 00:03

On the whole, yes I think it is rather bad manners.

Is it common practice?

Perhaps it shouldn't be.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 05/02/2023 00:24

I'd assume it was a typo, not an insult.

LadyLolaRuben · 05/02/2023 00:29

Capital letter shows they matter and are important to you. Its a mark of respect

Rogue1001MNer · 05/02/2023 00:36

Doesn't your device auto correct?

Mine does to many of my friend and family names.

However, my Dd has a name which is a common noun.
That doesn't auto correct.
Neither she nor I care

(I'll admit it, her name is table!)

Shoogly · 05/02/2023 00:47

I would really struggle to care if my name was spelt with lower case only. It's not going to be deliberate unless you have very odd friends. Is there a backstory?

I literally thought "table" ShockSmile

chopsueychopsticks · 05/02/2023 09:40

Maybe the family member is odd! When they refer to everyone else, including pets, with the first name initial capitalised then it feels to me to be done on purpose.

FatGirlSwim · 05/02/2023 09:44

Nope, total non issue.

TidyDancer · 05/02/2023 09:44

One of my closest friends has a boyfriend called Jack. Sometimes his name doesn't capitalise automatically for me and I often don't realise until I send the message.

I doubt it's on purpose. If you want to tell us your name we could test what it does on all our phones?

NerrSnerr · 05/02/2023 09:45

I don't think I'd notice if this happened or not!

Marblessolveeverything · 05/02/2023 09:52

I imagine it would be very tiresome to actively change a name case everytime. I would guess it's the device default.

Anon300 · 05/02/2023 09:55

I wouldn't care. Depends how quickly I was trying. I often don't bother with correct grammar in messages.
