Kia Sportage plug in hybrid

We are considering getting the Kia Sportage plug in hybrid and wondering if anyone has this car and would be willing to share their feedback?

We love our current car but, sadly, it isn't ULEZ compliant and we can't afford to pay a daily charge to keep it on the road when the ULEZ is expanded next summer. We're thinking of a plug in because our annual mileage is split fairly evenly between city driving and long car trips (we camp and vacation in the UK).

The choices out there are bewildering but I feel we've narrowed it down to the Kia Sportage because of affordability if we're able to find a secondhand one and performance (reviews are good but I'd love to hear from a. Mumsnetter with this car). In particular, it would be useful to hear what actual MPG you get from it versus the reported MPG.

Thanks! Any other thoughts or ideas also welcome!

@Elsalvador I have just spent the evening looking at hybrid plug ins, so was very pleased to see your post! Watching with interest….

The plug in seems quite new and is over £40k so has the high road tax in the UK, which really puts me off. The Tucson seems similar and I think is a bit cheaper. Did you look at those?

@Wouldyouever sounds like we've had similar evenings!

Funnily enough, second on our list is the Hyundai Tucson. Both are popular plug ins in the UK. It's definitely a contender because it is cheaper but I think was leaning towards the Kia because I've read so many great reviews. The £40k OTR price puts me off too but I'm hoping we can find a secondhand 2022 model which will be cheaper now that the 2023 version has been released (though wanting to hear from anyone who has the older model).

I still need to do some more number crunching to see if a plug in hybrid still makes sense financially or whether we go for petrol instead.

I could talk cars all night!
