Please can I see your garden office / garden bedroom / garden pods?

…and can you tell me where it was from?

Due to the crappy housing market, we’re probably stuck in a flat that’s a bit too small for our growing family, for at least another year. DH and I both work from home often and I’m pregnant with our second child, so we’re thinking about building a spare bedroom / office in the garden.

There’s a vast choice and range of prices on the internet and I would really like to hear actual experiences and see pictures of the finished products. Good and bad experiences welcomed.

Help gratefully received!

Hully pod. Cheapest by far. At the time less than £4,000.

Built in ship based designs. Delivered and craned in. Plug it in like a caravan.

They have an Insta account.

Their aim is to provide the cheapest but good quality pods.

I have this one www.cabinsunlimited.co.uk/alex-3-0m-x-2-5m-44mm-log-cabin-under-2-5m/

I work in it all year round with an oil filled radiator and it’s warm once it’s heated up. So yesterday I was working in it and didn’t need the heating on.

Ah I’ve been looking at them! Do you have one?

Thank you - looks super. When did you get it installed and are you satisfied?

I had it installed autumn 2020. Am really happy with it. Only slight niggle is the floor could maybe be better insulated but dh says if I insist on wearing wellies in there I will have cold feet and to put something more sensible on my feet! He’s probably right.

Ah now! In Scotland. My son designs and builds. So custom made to your requirements. You won't get change out of £7000 for the small pod version.

Wow!

Do you have one? They seem pricy for the size? But I love that you can take them with you when you move house…

@RandomCatGenerator we do have one. It's amazing. Coincidently, the supplier is local. We spent 2 years trying to get anyone to return a phone call or email about garden offices. These guys actually answered the phone! The longest bit was getting a concrete base put in.

Pricey yes, but won't rot either and really well insulated. We've used in in snow and heatwaves now.

Ridiculously expensive

RandomCatGenerator · 06/01/2024 22:35

Lol thanks @klaudm

By way of an update: we did go for a shed office in the end and are delighted with the result. Just under £15k - including levelling and laying the foundations, which we did ourselves but still isn’t cheap - for a 5 by 4 Office by summerhouses24. Can highly recommend for value for money and excellent customer service.

Im delighted. Brilliant new workspace, place for DH to game in the evening, for both of us to take private calls, and to sleep on occasion when the baby is having bad nights due to teething.

Looks great. I need a small 1.3m x 2
3m width

NaiceAm · 07/01/2024 08:18

We have one and we love it. We got one that was insulated well with SIPS osb boards which were then plastered and the painted with a light grey wood effect vinyl floor. Air con recommended too as it heats as well as cools. Ours is a wooden frame base on metal rods - no concrete base. They drove the metal rods into the ground and then built a wooden frame on top. It has black aluminium windows and doors and the doors bifold back so you can effectively open on side up. £26k but 28m2 so bigger than you are looking for. That price included an armoured cat5 cable that runs from the house to the shed and means we get Ethernet high speed internet in the shed and we put in a router from the shed so the shed and garden gets WiFi. we furnished it with an ikea sit stand desk and kallax unit and a sofa. Love it
