Earrings from Claires Accessories, butterflies don't fit?

I recently bought DD 3 pairs (not cheap, went for gold etc) there isn't one pair where both the butterflies fit? In fact I can get 2 butterflies that fit out of 6? What is the deal?

I'd take them back. I normally buy earrings from Claire's and never had that problem with any.

No receipt (must have got binned)

I'm wondering if we're meant to use the little plastic stoppers that secure the butterflies?
