When to sort DS prom outfit?

Hi, looking for some advice on when to get DS prom outfit sorted. I assume people usually rent a tux? It’s at the beginning of July, no close male friends that he feels he can ask about their plans and all of the girls are understandably already organised. I have no friends with older boys either. What has everyone else done? Thanks

Every school will be different, but noone wore tux's at ds's school, mostly 3 piece suits. Are there any pictures on the school website from previous years to get an idea what the boys normally wear?

Ds was a nightmare last year because we didnt realise he was a non standard shape and it took a long time to get something that looked semi right on him, then get it fitted (but there isnt a lot of choice of fitters where we live and he wasnt keen on going into the nearest city).

Dh never wears suits so we had no idea what we were doing. We went to a couple of fitters during the Easter holidays. It was then we realised in a tall slim suit he needed a 36 trouser for his hip/thighs but the waist was huge and would need taken in,and a 34 jacket to look neat and fitted. But the fitters wouldnt split item sizes in the suits he liked.

So we then ordered lots of suits in separates online over the next few weeks - trying slim/tailored fits, colours and mixed sizes to try to find something that looked smart and not middle aged office wear . The fabric made a huge difference too, heavier fabric hung nicer. We must have had at least 20 suits delivered and sent back
He found the one he wanted but we couldnt get the trousers in the right length as out of stock. Thankfully came in eventually and we found someone to adjust them just 4 days before the prom!!!

If you want to reduce stress start as early as you can. For online we found moss bros and next had the best selections. Wouldnt hurt to order some now and try on to see if he is going to be an awkward size or what colours he likes. You can always return them and reorder closer to the time.

If he has a date did you know they are meant to match? I didnt! He went for a dark charcoal suit, black shirt and would have matched with the tie - he ended up with a steel grey tie/pocket square. His girl friend couldnt decide, but at the last minute choose black so they looked great together.
