Passport renewal and kids first passports - help.

GlitteryFluff · 04/02/2023 13:57

Can anyone help?

Basically DH and I need to renew passports and I need to change to my married surname.
And I need to apply for first passports for our 3 DC.

I started the application process for one of the DC and it wants our passport numbers, which will change when we send off ours to be renewed. Will their passports be rejected as the info might not match? It also asked for my current name which I gave but that doesn't match the passport info they'll get from my passport number.

We wanted to go away towards the end of may if possible, so don't have time to send adults off and then when they're back send the kids off. Or do we have to do it that way and we'll have to go away later in the year?

Any advice/opinions? Thanks.

Just fill them all in and send the off. It will be fine. These sorts of scenarios happen all the time.

I have just done a child renewal and I completed the online application on 28th Jan and received the passport today.

Turnaround time is pretty quick at the moment.

GlitteryFluff · 04/02/2023 14:09

Wow that was fast a turnaround!

I was planning to just do them all today but didn't want to complicate matters and have to deal with lots of calls and emails if it all goes wrong.

I would give them a quick ring to clarify what the best way to do it is.
I'd be stressing something went wrong

Glitterkitten24 · 04/02/2023 14:20

We applied for a passport a week ago (renewal) and it’s already been printed and due to be delivered next week- so turnaround time now seems pretty quick!

I’d just send all the applications off though- this situation must happen all the time, I don’t think it will be an issue.x

Do yours first.

Boomboom22 · 04/02/2023 14:22

They say to send all docs in one envelope to any of the addresses you get given and then they process them all at the same time.

So your marriage cert and birth cert etc does all the kids plys their birth certs. The passport numbers will match as the new ones will all be issued as they process.

My DS's just took 10 days, including getting someone to approve his photo...

I personally would do your name change first and DH's renewal - use the online service and keep an eye on the emails, keep checking progress.

Then do the kids once yours are back.

Or if you want to be sure do you and DH on fast track.

weightymatters73 · 04/02/2023 14:44

Just for those saying "send them all off together" I did DS1 and mine a while ago and they went to two different offices....I nearly put both passports in the sa,e envelope but realised at the last minute it was different addresses! So take care and send the correct documents to the correct place. DS2 when I did it recently went to a different office again (there are 12(?) different offices).

fairgame84 · 04/02/2023 14:45

Do yours first.
I've just done mine, renewal with name change. It took 10 days.
I sent DDs off this week now that mine is up to date.

Watto1 · 04/02/2023 14:46

You don’t actually have to change your passport to your married name, as long as the name on your flight ticket matches the name on your passport. So if your current passport doesn’t expire soon use that one for booking your tickets (and book your flight in that name) and for applying for the kids passports and then change the name on your passport at a later date.

Blablablablaba · 04/02/2023 14:50

Yip don't send them all to same place.

I ended up with 3 different address I think.

1 for me and dhs passport renewal.

1 for first Childs passport.

1 for Childs renewal of passport.

I nearly sent all to the same one but glad I checked!

I'd be inclined so send the kids ones and then once they are back send ur off. U have plenty of time and esp if u haven't booked anything yet.

Lkydfju · 04/02/2023 14:52

I did my DCs passport then waited until it’d showed as accepted on the website then sent mine off to be renewed; it was all really quick and that was last year when they were saying you might need to wait 10 weeks

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 04/02/2023 14:56

You dont need to change your name on passport if you dont want to , you can use both married and maiden names.

I would do DH renewal and kids, then if time do yours afterwards

gogohmm · 04/02/2023 14:56

Unless you need to travel imminently, do the kids ones today then the adults ones once they are completed or vice versa. Your adult ones should be pretty quick, even the name change, assuming it's all able to be done online.

SillyBub · 04/02/2023 15:02

Another saying do yours first. DS's renewal took 8 days from submitting to receiving (delivered on Tuesday) and DH's was 10 days (received Thursday). Both original passports back today.

Flo84 · 04/02/2023 15:09

I renewed mine at the same time as I did my son's first one a couple of weeks ago. I put in my old passport number and had to do a change of name for myself and it was very straight forward and we have both recieved new passports quickly. It says that they will contact you if they need more info anyway. I would do them all at once and put in the passport numbers you already have.

Kentlassie · 04/02/2023 15:18

I think it will be fine. I applied for DC first passports last year and my maiden name is on my passport/ I put my married name on their forms.
Just remember to book your flight tickets in whatever name is on your passport and not realise you’ve got it wrong at the airport……

Chemicalrainbow · 04/02/2023 16:12

You can send them all the the same place in the same envelope, even if it gives you different addresses for each application. Just pick one address and write all of your application numbers on the back of the envelope above the address. I just had to do a child’s and mine at the same time and did just that. It worked fine. (They send you an email saying you can do this after you fill in the online application.)

Sugarfree23 · 04/02/2023 16:21

I'd do them all at the one time.
Do yours first, then DH and kids. There is a box to tick when you complete the first one, if you have another application to do. I don't think that was there when I did my kids last year but its there now, I did my passport mid January.

Boomboom22 · 04/02/2023 20:08

It very clearly states if it is a family group send them all to only 1 address which can be any of the ones you were given. Just make sure to put all the ref numbers on the envelope.

GlitteryFluff · 07/02/2023 14:13

Thank you everyone.
We've just done my name change and renewal, and dh's renewal.
We'll wait til they're back before we do the kids.
It may have been fine but I honestly can't be bothered with the hassle if it goes wrong! Thanks again.
