Which card games do your pre-teens play?

My DC's card game education is sadly lacking. What card games do you think every 12 year old should know how to play?

We started when the kids were younger but progressed from “follow the Jack”, to “sevens”, to “knock out whist”. Once they’ve got that then they can learn any card game.

I was playing gin rummy at around 10/11 we used to play it a lot when we were were on holiday.

During lock down I bought a card set from etsy, four wooden card holders to help smaller hands, several packs of cards and a book of games. We learnt a new game each week but Go fish is always a favourite.

We play a lot of Uno! But I need to teach them proper games too, I played loads with my Mum: poker, pontoon, rummy, and the one with the board where the phrase 'level pegging' comes from, making 8s and 15s? Name escapes me at the mo!

@MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco I LOVED Shithead, but can't remember the rules/scores. The wiki on it seems more complicated than I remember!

Yes, I'm sure I played it too @NorthernChinchilla but the wiki page means nothing to me. We also played slam (I think) - the one where you get your knuckles scraped or hit with the pack of cards if you lose.
