What time do after school playdates normally end for younger DCs?

I think 6 o'clock is about the norm but another mum usually asks to collect her DC at 9 o'clock.

For various reasons, we are cutting back on these playdates (the other mum frequently turns up late. I'm also not keen on her returning the favour as she is a heavy smoker and doesn't have any car seats for her DC let alone mine, so I don't let my DS get in a car with her).

But I just wondered what the norm is as beginning to think she was using me for free childcare a bit.

Thanks 💐

Age 5-6-7 I'd say 5.30 - 6 at latest really. 9 is bonkers

9pm is a total and absolute pisstake! Like maybe as a one off in an emergency, but not planned for 9pm unless the kids are a lot older.

For primary school id say 6pm is right.

What age? If primary, 9 o clock is completely unreasonable. We didn’t allow our kids in smoker’s homes/cars either.

Year 3.

Ok, seems I've been taken for a ride a bit.

DS hasn't asked for her DS to come over in ages tbh and don't think they play together at school very much either. She suggested we get them together recently, but I said no because she'd also just told me the boys weren't really playing together as school, so I thought a playdate sounded awkward. Only realising now that I think she probably just wanted me to have him as childcare 🙄😂

6pm is absolutely the latest for most of primary school age on a school night. Id say 7pm for a year 5/6 in the summer. We've had issues with a Mum at school picking her dc up at 11pm and just dropping him at your house with no warning the past year (year 6) and now most of us are refusing to have him over.

Fridays and weekends can be slightly later if you agree to it but usually it results in a sleepover once they hit year 4!

9pm is insane.

I'd usually say 2 hours is about right for a playdate, so depends on what time you get home from school.

The dc get tired of each other after a few hours after having a long week in school. Mine would ask..when is Tom going home?? So definitely not until 9.

OverProtectiveMumOfPFB · 04/02/2023 10:55

One would have been in bed at 730 at that age, so expecting a play date until 9 is crazy! Latest for me would have been 530 so I could get dinner for 6. I call. One in at 630 in the summer, but I'm always the first even though mine are the eldest of the pack 😳
