Interesting outcome in Bournemouth where the council seen to have largely disregarded the public response to its consultation on policy towards laps dance clubs and strip clubs. A woman forced a review at court.
Article is with a read. Impressive woman.

That link didn’t work for me. Let’s see if this works amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/feb/03/high-court-overrules-bournemouths-unlimited-strip-club-policy

Good on that woman for raising this. What the hell are that council thinking?!

Dammitthisisshit · 04/02/2023 07:39

So 2 consultations, 70 and 76% of respondents disagreed with the policy yet it was still accepted by the council. Makes a mockery of having consultations if the views raised will just be dismissed.

Good decision from the high court.

Well done to this woman! 👏

Shesasuperfreak · 04/02/2023 08:03

Duh!
What an obvious observation. All type of sex work or 'dance' work contributes to the objectification of women.
At that point women have a price tag and men will start to think that thats the norm.

Illhaveadonut · 04/02/2023 08:27

@Shesasuperfreak I was going to include the longer quotation as thread title but figured too long.

It may seem obvious but the council ignored views they considered "moralistic".
This woman made herself heard in a way few of us manage.

Mulling this over, the court has found Bournemouth council were wrong to disregard women's concerns. Was that entirely limited to legal duty about consultations or was it also giving legitimacy to connecting lap dance/strip clubs/objectification/harm to women and girls.
