Out for dinner last night. Big group, oblong table. I was at a corner and to my right on the long edge was another person. For the first part of the meal and at a few other points they basically turned so their back was facing me and they were blocking me from the person to their right (guest of honour).

They stopped mostly but I did keep having to lean round them to talk to the main guest and try and make it a group convo.

I'm maybe overthinking it tho!

was there someone opposite/ on your left? It was a bit rude but possibly unintentional

hopeishere · 03/02/2023 12:26

Yes there was. They actually thought it was really rude but "typical" of the individual!

That's very rude, and the host should have managed it so that you weren't left out. Also, if ignorant person has form, the host should have seated him somewhere that would minimally impacted other guests. Bad form from both and wouldn't have happened at one of my dinner parties.

CalistoNoSolo · 03/02/2023 13:29

That's very rude, and as the host I would have managed it so that you weren't left out. Was the ignorant person a man?

hopeishere · 03/02/2023 13:40

Yes it is a man! No host as it was a group dinner.

Well there you go then, you've answered your own question

gamerchick · 03/02/2023 13:57

Does that mean you turned your back to the person next to you?

I hate oblong tables for a gathering. They're properly shit for socialising.

hopeishere · 03/02/2023 17:40

I didn't turn my back on the peeps I my left. It was perfectly feasible for all four of us to chat only the person on my left was blocking us out.

No - the OP was on the end of the table so had only someone on one side. That person turned their back on the OP.

hopeishere · 03/02/2023 20:05

No. There were two of us on each short end. And three on each long end.
