Weighted hula hoops

Has anyone got one of those weighted hula hoops with the weight you have to swing round?

Does it work?

Has it made any difference?

Does it get your heart pumping?

I keep seeing everyone using them but wondered if they actually do anything. I'm not of course expecting miracles!

Thanks

Do you do any other kind of exercise OP?

Fullofpudding · 03/02/2023 07:37

Yes I do aqua classes, Zumba and walk a lot. I just wanted something I could do at home.

DH got me a weighted hula hoop for Christmas (I asked him to!). The weights are inside rather than outside but it’s the same principle. I really like using it and it’s quite good exercise especially on days I don’t do classes. You need more space than I realised though, so I have to do it outside.

But honestly, classes are better. A hula hoop is just one type of movement and does get boring quickly. A cardio class of some kind is so, so much better as the teacher will work on different parts of the body, change the music and steps now and then so you don’t get bored and therefore carry on longer and the social side also keeps you going longer as well as it being good for your mental health. If you can’t afford the time or money there’s also YouTube classes.

I have one and really like it. You need to have it fitted quite tightly round your waist to get the weight to move, but once you get the hang of it, it is much easier and more effective than a traditional hula hoop.

It has noticeably toned my waist, but I wouldn't say it is aerobic at all - or maybe I just don't give it enough welly!

Ah sorry OP you have said you do other classes. I walk, do Zumba and yoga so the hoop is a good supplement for days when there are no classes or I can’t go to them for whatever reason.

I would get yourself some dumbbells and check out Heather Robertson then

I borrowed one to try out. I found it very boring. I needed to go out into the garden to use it as not enough open space indoors without risk of knocking something other, which restricted usage. I gave it back and didn't bother to buy one.

Really disappointed this isn't a crisp thread
