HELP!! I don't understand all the mumsnet abbreviations?

As the title says really.
DC, dh dsc.... Literally I've no clue on ANY of the abbreviations.
Is there a list on this forum somewhere, that gives you a guide? I'm very new to mumsnet and for me to write a post, it'll be full words.

I've worked out "FIL" and "MIL" and surprisingly "CF"....
"DD" = daughter (I'm guessing) ... But what does the 1st "d" or maybe the 2nd "d" in that mean?

Someone please help me!!
Id like some advice on a few things in my life, but I need to get this mumsnet jargon mastered.

The first D means 'Dear'... so my Dear Daughter, or Dear Partner.
Personally, I don't understand it as people don't tend to use text speak and all that crap here, so appreviating stuff like that makes no sense to me.

Cheeky f*cker ..Took me a while to work out that one tbh lol

Family members are dear daughter/son/husband etc hence the DD/DS/DH

many aren’t mumsnet abbreviations, they are internet forum things in general (DH, DD etc predate mumsnet by a good while)

handy link to the acronyms page in previous posts Smile

DFOD - Do Fuck Off Dear

I am pretty sure there is a guide somewhere under the site stuff topic.

But as a v quick guide. The first D usually means dear or darling (interchangeable). Sometimes it's sarcastic. Eg: DH bought me a hoover for Xmas.

DH = husband
DP = partner
DSC = stepchild
DC = child
OP = original poster (whoever started the thread)

Sometimes DS1 means first born son, Sometimes it means son aged 1. It depends on the poster, so don't freak out when you see DD9, the poster probably doesn't have 9 daughters. 😁

And welcome to MN (Mumsnet).

LTB - leave the bastard is always a handy one

Sometimes you get people on here talking about their DDog or DCat which is really strange.

There's a whole lingo but I wouldn't let it worry you, the people who are constantly talking in abbreviations and code are best ignored anyway. I've seen a few people describe things as "naice" recently, which I think is one of the weirdest things I've seen on this site. Seems like it's people using it to refer to things that they can't afford maybe?

PFB is something I keep seeing too but I don't know what it is for sure. Perfect Fucking Baby??!

I think PFB is 'Precious First Born' because some people go nuts when they have their first kid and think it is the best thing on the planet, so they act all entitled about it.

I guess I wasn't too wide of the mark!

Naice is an old old joke. It’s pretending to to use an affected accent to say “nice”. It’s not especially weird, its not serious, it’s ok not to find it funny, it’s just referring back to a previous joke which is something that happens among groups of people

Offleyhoo · 03/02/2023 02:13

"Naice ham" being the classic
