I’m on jury, help!

Do jury trials start on a Friday? I’ve been told to ring a number tonight for further instructions. Confused! Hate not knowing what’s happening day to day

I don't see why not. The first half a day was mostly procedure (selecting the jury out of those who turned up of those who'd been summonsed). Then you've got time to hear opening statements. Or it could even be a very short case, done in a day.

Both my lots of jury service started on Mondays but they were a while ago now. It is unsettling not knowing what to expect from the next day but they only know day to day to some extent too.

The call tonight will tell you whether you are required to attend tomorrow or maybe Monday.

The first half of the first day is spent allocating jurors to a Court and some people will be told to go home for no reason other than numbers have been fulfilled. Some people will be asked if there’s any reason why they can’t take part in a case lasting longer than a week (you need to provide evidence - holiday booked, operation scheduled, major child care issues etc).

You may get sworn in to a case that same day and the case may be up and over within the afternoon. You may be sent home for good or you may be put back into the juror pool.

Yes they can start on a Friday. If the previous one is finished they just get started on the next one.
