Anyone in Auckland?

Hello,
If you are in Auckland, firstly I really hope you and your family are safe and have not been through too much trauma and disruption due to the flooding.
I was looking for some reassurance as I'm really worried about my parents, they have travelled to New Zealand today after spending a few days in Kuala Lumpur, for a 4 week dream holiday to New Zealand for my mum's 70th birthday. They're flying into Auckland today. I think they're due to be in Auckland for 3 nights before hiring a car to go to Rotorua.
I was really hoping they'd change their plans and go somewhere else but they haven't. They're experienced travellers, have been all over the world, but I'm hearing news of landslides and power cuts and I'm so worried about something happening to them.
I've been trying to follow the news but there's a real mixed bag of reports so if anyone can tell me what the reality is on the ground I'd be so grateful for some real perspective.

Do you know where they are staying OP? Auckland is huge - 2 hours motorway driving from one end to the other so not everywhere is affected. The city centre has been flooded but is okay now.

My brother is in Auckland, wasn’t personally affected and is fine. Your parents should be fine too. There should be well publicised advice for tourists and if they’re experienced travellers they will know to heed it.

Thank you! That is reassuring. They've arrived ok but not heard anything since. I think they're staying in the financial district in the city centre.

My friend is a bit outside of Auckland and says there’s been an earthquake today . Not sure if that’s knocked out any communication but I don’t think anyone has been hurt.
