Iron supplements for heavy periods

Since turning 40 my periods have become horrendous.

I've bled really heavily today and feel absolutely wiped out.

I'm also vegetarian and have had spells of slight anaemia over the years.

Can anyone recommend some good iron supplements?

You need the strong ones from the GP. You will struggle to get your levels up with normal supplements.

Ah ok. I had those when I was pregnant as i was anaemic then. Wonder if I'll have to go for bloods first? Just wanted to get something into me as I feel like I've been run over.

I’d see the GP for blood test to check your iron levels- I had that recently but was then suggested to take over the counter supplements as mine wasn’t too low. I take the Vitabiotics Feroglobin tablets which are good

Thank you. Yes I was going to try and get to GP but just wanted to start taking something straight away to help get my levels up.

Speak to a pharmacist, you can buy the ones the gp prescribes over the counter.
