How do I get rid of messenger notification? No actual message.

On my iPad, Messenger is showing an unread message, but when I open it there isn't one. The only unread message says Facebook marketplace, but when I open messages from marketplace there are none unread.

I just can't get rid of it. What can I do.

I did think of deleting the app and reinstalling, but it says all the data related to the app will be deleted, so I'm a bit wary of doing this.

Happens to me occasionally. Normally if I've replied through the notification rather than opening the message and replying normally.

Assuming that you've already checked your message request inbox, which is the only other time it's happened to me.

Only thing I've found to clear it is uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I've never lost anything by doing that.

is there something in "message requests" from someone who isn't a contact?

No it just says chats

Even though it says all the data attached to it will be deleted?

That's happened to me before and drove me batty haha.
I realised it was because I'd archived a marketplace chat and then the person had replied at the same time so it was showing as unread.
Not sure if you can un-archive it to mark it as read.

Mine is when someone posts a story so you have to look at those then the notifications go

Have you tried opening messenger on your phone as well. Might be worth a try.

I bit the bullet and ignored the 'delete all data) message, uninstalled and reinstalled, and it worked! 😀😀😀

It might not necessarily be a message. They seem to have added the “message notification” for when friends upload stories too.

So just click on all four sections (chats, calls, people, stories) at the bottom and it should go away.
