I have the worst sore throat ever. I mean ever. I’ve been in tears it’s that painful. I feel like I have to keep swallowing and at times I feel like I can’t breathe. My cheeks are flushed and I’m boiling. My skin feels hot to touch. I feel horrible😞

Yes - can you ring as soon as they open and get a same day emergency appointment? Or call 111 now and they can refer you to out of hours. Or just turn up to out of hours if that's possible where you live.

In the meantime have you got any paracetamol you can take to help with the pain and your temperature?

Sorry you're feeling so ill.

Oh bless. Have you got online access to request gp appointments? I find these so much better for speed. You may also wish to speak to a pharmacist as they can offer fantastic advice much quicker. I'm not sure how much a gp will help in these times.

I'm currently lying in bed feeling very similar. I felt quite bad yesterday but now atrocious having woken up at 3am with cold sweats and wondering how I will get through the day. My plan is lots of fluids and upkeep of lemsip. Doctors if it persists and seems to develop to an infection.

If you can’t eat, drink or swallow properly then you need to get medical advice. It may simply be that you need antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon. Sounds awful.

Thank you everyone. I have just done the 111 online and it said to go to a pharmacy so I’ll do that first and see what they say. I’ve been awake since 4 unable to sleep😞 I’ve got a long day ahead of me with my 2 year old😳

Strep throat felt like that. I had to alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol to get any kind of relief. The throat sprays were fairly useless.

I've just done a covid test and got a positive straight away. Last time it took days to be positive. Have you tested?

FoxyBloxy · 01/02/2023 06:40

@KendrickLamaze No I don’t have any tests I’ll see if I can get one

@Msloverlover makes a good point tho, it could be strep so take care of you have a small one

Have you properly taken pain killers yet and drunk lots of hot liquid? It sounds very unpleasant but most sore throats are viral and there’s nothing a GP can do apart from advise rest, fluids and painkillers. If it’s not gone away after ten days then you might get some antibiotics because it’s lingering.

If you call for an appointment before you’ve even tried self care then they won’t have much information to go on.

Also try looking at the back of your throat yourself. If there are white blotches that’s a clear sign of infection which could qualify for antibiotics.
