Is it worth a and e

I have endometriosis and think I’m currently ovulating as it’s the right time of the month. I have pain in my left and right side where my ovaries are and my lower back. The pain is really bad and cocodamol isn’t fixing it. It’s killing me and it isn’t usually this bad.

I wouldn't because you may have to wait for hours in an uncomfortable environment

I am also suffering terribly today (adenomyosis) but I've managed to get hold of some naproxen. I couldn't walk earlier. It's dreadful. Who would be a woman.

Do you have a gynae?

Plumplum1 · 31/01/2023 20:48

I’ve taken naproxen too I do have some morphine but I trying to not take it as it keeps me up all night

You'll be waiting for hours and hours. A friend took her toddler there the other night, they were there all night and were told it would be quicker for them to get an emergency GP appointment so they went home without being seen.

OneEyedRabbit · 31/01/2023 21:26

Poor you @Plumplum1 - can you get a gynae appointment? Have they got a plan as to what to do with your endo? It's so miserable isn't it - sending sympathy

dizzydizzydizzy · 31/01/2023 22:03

What about calling 111?

Would a hot water bottle in the painful area help?

Viviennemary · 31/01/2023 22:07

No mot A& E. If there is a walk in centre anywhere near you then try that if you can't get a GP appointment.

007DoubleOSeven · 31/01/2023 22:08

I'm in two minds. On the one hand you'll be there for hours. On the other, they can give you stronger pain medication and can refer you to gynae.

Your choice but severe pain is a&e worthy. If you go, go prepared..charger, snacks, flask/water, change, cushion, hwb etc

TheRookie · 31/01/2023 22:10

Not to be rude but all A&E wil do is give you morphine I would think so might be best to at least take what you have already got before going to see if that helps

CottonSock · 31/01/2023 22:11

You already have stronger medication available to you.

CheekyHusky · 31/01/2023 22:12

I’m also in two minds. It could be something more sinister causing the pain.

I would probably go, but go prepared for a long wait.

Pegsmum · 31/01/2023 22:12

I wouldn’t, take some anti inflammatories with your cocodamol and hopefully the relief will eventually kick in. I feel for you, I had endometriosis for 25 years and it is awful.
Hope you get some sleep and pain relief.

SaintJac · 31/01/2023 22:15

I think self medication is in order here - you have the morphine (presumably in date and prescribed to you) which is what A&E would administer if deemed non opiates (like paracetamol) weren’t working. I say this as a fellow endo sufferer who takes cocodomol when I ovulate

UrsulaPandress · 31/01/2023 22:18

Take the morphine. A&E will be misery.

worried4698643 · 31/01/2023 22:22

I can't see what a&e will be able to do. You already have stronger pain meds that you can take.

You'll be sitting for hours, terribly uncomfortable and tired.

I would rather take the meds/ warm bath and have a comfy bed and try to get some sleep.

ChrisPPancake · 31/01/2023 22:28

You say you don't want to take it because you'll be up all night - you will be at a&e too but you won't necessarily get the extra pain relief for hours due to wait times! Take the stuff you've got.

If the morphine doesn't work then a&e.

DottyLittleRainbow · 31/01/2023 22:45

I think unless you have a new concern, you need to try the strongest pain relief you have been prescribed for your pre-existing condition first. If that doesn’t work and you have severe pain then A&E.

hairymuffet · 31/01/2023 22:46

What do you think A and E will do, other than give you morphine which you already have?
Take the morphine and call your GP in the morning

Plumplum1 · 31/01/2023 23:13

Thank you all for the advice I took morphine just gone 9 as it was excruciating. Laying on a heat pad as the pain is still bad. Parter has just tried to rub my lower back and stomach but it was so tender I made him stop. Off to lay down again have applied some pillow spray in the hope I can sleep it off.

Plumplum1 · 03/02/2023 01:57

Still not well and can’t sleep which is making it worse I get results back tomorrow from gp to rule out urine infection
