How to get musty smell out of bed?

Our local bed shop is moving premises and they're selling off their display stock. I've just bought a double bed and mattress for £200 to be delivered tomorrow and they warned me that it smells a bit damp/musty. That's fine, I don't mind that I just need to know the best way to make it smell fresh! Spray the hell out of it with Febreeze and leave it outside for a while?

If it smells a bit damp & musty it could be full of mould spores! Not something I’d want to sleep on tbh.

If it’s a smell you want to get rid of, get a tub or two of bicarbonate of soda, that neutralises odours. You could put a few drops of essential oil in it now to scent it in advance. Then, sprinkle it all over the mattress & base, and leave it as long as possible (if you can store it covered in the powder for a few days it would be best) before hoovering off.

Not sure you will ever get the musty smell out. Once damp and mould spores (probably unseen inside the mattress) get into a fabric it's pretty much impossible to get rid.

I would not advise sleeping on a bed that is damp due to the ramifications to your health.
