Which film would you choose for 11 year old's party?

DD wants some friends over to watch a film (can't go to cinema because of DS). What would you put on for them to watch?

She's obsessed with Harry Potter at the moment, has seen all the films. I assume those in her class who are interested will also have seen them all. Ditto Star Wars.

I had thought about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them but it's a 13 as are most of Star Wars. The girls she wants to invite will be aged 10-13 so possibly some parents might not be happy with a 13, although I could ask on the invite.

At that age I’d let her decide, unless she wanted something massively inappropriate.

Fantastic Beasts should be fine for that age group.

It's old school but my son is desperate to watch Men in Black and I've said he can when he is 11! 😄 I loved it around that age.

Mrs Peregrine home for peculiar children

Jumanji

The house with clock in the wall

(haven’t checked age groups)

I'd let them choose tbh but I'd make suggestions ie fantastical beasts, miss peregrine's, Oz the Great and Powerful, pirates of the Caribbean etc

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 31/01/2023 13:17

Has she done Percy Jackson and the lightening thief? My DD who is obsessed with HP has also taken a real liking to that and it's PG. The Kid who would be King is really good fun and has those kinds of fantasy elements that a HP fan would enjoy, that's a PG too.

All that said Fantastic beasts is no more scary than the latter HP films and same 12a rating. You can always read the BBFC rating rationale to help inform decisions.

DinDjarin · 31/01/2023 13:22

@Tinkeytonkoldfruit shes read the book, not seen the film.

Definitely just let her choose.

Guide her choice if needed - for something they maybe haven't seen?

Pirates of the Caribbean
Back to the Future
High School Musical
Road to Eldorado
The Goonies
Freaky Friday
The Princess Bride
Hunger Games

DinDjarin · 31/01/2023 13:46

She wants to invite 8 😱 so I think it's better to say "we're watching this" than to give them a choice. I

DD is certainly not ready for the Hunger Games!

If you may be showing 'over age' films then you really should check with parents first before the film is decided on. So maybe make sure she picks at least 1 pg film onto the shortlist.

The Parent Trap?

Hated the original one (am old enough to have seen it in the cinemas when first came out). Much prefer the newer versions.

Night in the Museum
High School Musical - 1 and 2

DinDjarin · 31/01/2023 14:39

@Riverlee me too. Didn't know there were newer versions!

oh, haven't watched Night in the Museum in ages. Putting it on the list to ask Dd.

13 going on 30 (or whatever it is called). Body swap like Big but with females.
