Jury service

I’m currently on jury service. I went for one morning where 12 people were chosen for a jury. The other 10 have been sent away and told to ring a number later in the week for instructions?

On my form before a jury was decided, Ithad a box where it said to write any reasons for the judge to consider you not to be part of the jury. I have a breathing problem which gets worse when I’m nervous. I stated I am nervous going into court.

Are they likely to take this into consideration for when I have to call later in the week? And is it likely the other 10 people will be asked

Bumping for you as I’m curious to know too.

I believe medical issues needed to be raised earlier and few will exempt you, but I don’t know for sure.

You haven't been excused from jury service on the basis of the information you've already provided so I should think you are just as likely as anyone else to be called to be on a jury.

I'm think of you want to use medical grounds you need to provide a letter or something from your GP before it gets to the time of your duty. The judge is asking in case you know the person/peoples involved.

I don't think you will be successful

You may still be called, but it depends on the caseload, how quick trials go and juror pool.

They really don't want people interrupting the court proceedings as everything has to stop if a juror needs to leave. How severe is this - bad enough you'd have to leave the room or be too ill to continue?

You may still be called if the courts need you. You haven't been medically dismissed by a gp therefore you're fair game.

Jury service is good, you have nothing to be nervous about! I appreciate it feels big etc but most people called up will be anxious. The court staff will be very aware.

This was weeks ago, I wonder what happened?

The time to ask for medical exemption is definitely when you get the paperwork though, not when you go to court.

Wrong. I was excused from jury on the first day of arrival. I explained my position and this was taken into account by the judge. I was excused by the judge and didn't get chosen.

I'm glad you got excused but I don't think it's wrong to suggest that this is something that could/should have been done sooner.
