I do.
I'm a shy kind of person but for a long time I could turn it on when I had to for work. E.g. I could entertain clients for lunch or attend networking events and hold my own, in a way I couldn't socially. I think because the work situation was almost playing a role, where socially I only had myself to work with!
As I've got older I've got much more comfortable in my own skin. Still happier in a small group than part of a large group, especially with people I don't know, but I have a nice group of friends and an active social life and I think I'm decent company. I'm not short on invitations!
At work these days I'm very professional and straight laced. I'm polite and friendly to everyone but I don't "make friends" at work. I don't think there's anyone there who knows me well or vice versa and I prefer to keep work and social separate.
This weekend I'm going with some friends to a small event I've learned some colleagues will also be at and it feels like a very uncomfortable overlap to me. I think they'll be surprised at what they see - I love a parry these days and sparkle (IMHO
) in a way they won't have seen or expect. I don't suppose it matters, but it got me wondering if others are very different outside work?
