What does 12 boys wear?

Ds12 has been wearing same kind of clothes since he was five. Blue or grey college tracking suit bottoms and a jacket. He seems to be ashamed of his clothes because he chose to wear school uniform to own clothes day. I keep telling him that he needs new clothes and trying to ask what his friends does wear. No help. He just insist that his clothes are fine even though not wearing them to school. We are going to shopping on Wednesday and I would be interested to know what kind of clothes are cool.

What is the budget? north face joggers and north face hoodie tend to be popular. They may have sales on just now

hatred · 30/01/2023 17:57

Thanks! No specific budget but will see if I can get reduced price.

Nike tech tops and bottoms. Not cheap!! Northface, kwd, bee inspired. The skinnier the jogger seems to be more fashionable. That's what the boys wear in my area. My son is a sheep. Exactly the same.

Just go for very plain to be on safe side so nothing too much of a statement. Mine also like underarmour stuff.

although are you sure he definitely doesn’t like his own clothes? Could be another reason he wore uniform? Maybe that’s what a lot of kids at his school do ?

Grest · 30/01/2023 18:03

Yes skinnier joggers, not too baggy.

DS is 11 and not that mature so I've been trying to dress him a bit more 'grown up' (he'd probably happily still wear stuff covered in dinosaurs) so I'm going more towards hoodies, chinos/jeans and flannel shirts which seem a bit more the thing. I know that really the thing is grey, navy and black branded sportswear but it's so dull and expensive I'm holding off that unless he really decides he wants something more like that.

TokyoSushi · 30/01/2023 18:06

Black.

Skinny joggers, hoodies, sweatshirts, half zip tops.

Have a look in JD Sports or Sports Direct and you'll quickly get the idea.

My 12 year old likes Montirex, Under Armour and North Face.

He will wear colour though especially pink, orange and red.
This is his latest (birthday) purchase:

Do you have a H&M? I just chuck my DS in there and he picks things out because he likes plainer things. It pretty much caters for most styles. This is for his everyday clothes (jeans, t-shirts etc...) and then he has skate brands for birthday/christmas gifts (even then he chooses the plainer logo stuff). He used to tell me he hated shopping but I took him in Zara and he went wild (sadly not much fits him in there as he is a big 11 yo and Zara sizing is quite small at the best of times)

Zola1 · 30/01/2023 18:08

Another vote here.. grey or dark sports wear, Under Armour, Nike, North Face, Montirex, Monterrain. Trainers round here the kids wear a lot of Nike 110s, 95s, On Cloud.

sunshineandshowers40 · 30/01/2023 18:09

Black or grey sportswear, usually Nike

Pascha · 30/01/2023 18:12

Ds1 is happiest in back jeans and mostly black tops, or orange (he likes orange). Skinny joggers come second, with motor racing tops. Zip hoodie works too. Trainers apparently must be Nike, Puma or Adidas.

strongallowed · 30/01/2023 18:12

My 12yo hates branded anything so has to be completely plain in the black / grey / navy line. Usually skinny black joggers or jeans and oversized hoodies

lilacclementine · 30/01/2023 18:13

Nike joggers. Nike tech fleece. T shirts or long sleeved T-shirts. Airforce trainers in black or white.

Pascha · 30/01/2023 18:15

Tbh though, any bright tshirt from anywhere paired with black or grey jeans or joggers is absolutely fine for him. He's not really clothes oriented and as long as it doesn't include a rubbish slogan hell just wear it.

6ft1minimum · 30/01/2023 18:20

Nike, Adidas and Underarmour is what my son his mates wear. Also Rascal and Hype seem to be pretty popular too.

lolstevelol · 30/01/2023 18:27

If budget is not too much of a problem then branded clothes that fit would be best. Make sure he tries them on in the changing room before. Brands to stick to will be Nike, North face and Adidas along with designer non-sports such as Levis and Ralph Lauren.

hatred · 30/01/2023 18:44

Thank you! He is what you would call a computer nerd in my youth. He has no clu.
We probably go for plain Adidas/Nike/North face etc tracksuits.

Oldest DS from age 8/9 has gone for black/grey variations of North Face, Nike Air and Lacoste...

Ozgirl75 · 30/01/2023 19:27

My 12 year old isn’t interested in clothes apart from how they feel, so he wears joggers (or preferably shorts) with a sports t shirt and a jumper from somewhere like Abercrombie or Under Armour. He wouldn’t countenance jeans as he says they’re far too restrictive.
My younger son (10) though is more picky and likes merch t shirts from Mr Beast or various YouTubers or sports teams that he likes. In the summer he likes a Hawaiian shirt or similar.

PeekAtYou · 30/01/2023 19:33

Go to JD and get something branded like Nike or Adidas. (Nike swoosh or Adidas stripes so it's obviously branded is a safe bet)

Does he support a football team? I know not all schools approve of football kits for mufti day but my boys wore one around that age.

If he wants to look older then pick colours like black, grey, maroon. If he's a fan of bright colours then look at Hype because they have some interesting prints.

Goingoutoutout · 30/01/2023 19:34

Head to sports direct and you won’t go far wrong. Don’t forget sone Nike socks and slides

Disneygirl37 · 30/01/2023 19:36

Nike, north face tracksuits and t shirts. He has one pair of jeans which he wears if we go out but otherwise he goes for comfort.
His older sister is good a searching out bargains on Vinted, she's his stylist! Especially second hand hoodies and jumpers which don't seem to get as worn out and he seems to grow an inch every few months! I would rather spend money on a decent pair of new trainers. I tend to bundle up everything when he grown out of it and sell it and use the money for the next size up.

Mine live in skinny joggers, branded tshirts with small motifs, hooded tops and if I ask they are slightly smarter they'll put some jeans on.

lilsupersparks · 30/01/2023 19:46

My 12 year old wears skinny jeans with a hoodie and T shirt. Unbranded - he wears plain T shirts from M and S or Fatface or similar. He has Vans. He will wear a Stranger Things T shirt (well it just says Hawkins - he wouldn’t wear something more obviously branded than that) with a checked shirt over the top.

My 10 year old wears only shorts and a baggy Lifeguard hoodie he got on holiday 😂 he has a ‘Lakers’ basketball shirt we got in Primark! He wears expensive Nike trainers he got for his birthday. He would like to wear top to toe Nike tracksuit but we haven’t bought him one 😂 no doubt he would never take it off!!
