Hi, my 13mo boy wakes up crying from EVERY sleep/nap. He’s also an early riser. Been doing this as long as I can remember! We’ve tried the earlier bed time to make him sleep later, doesn’t work. But how do we get him to wake up happy? So many people advise leave him in cot till time you want him to get up, but he screams the house down. Desperate and tired - please any advice welcome

Presumably he’s waking for a reason other than being done sleeping, either hungry or nappy or something else waking him.

Two separate issues. If he wakes from all sleep crying, that's how he wakes up.
Early rising is another matter . One of mine always woke at 5-5.30 regardless of naos, bedtime, night wakes, daytime activity. Eventually he just came and sat at the end of our bed and watched TV while we dozed.

My first son was the same, also a very bad sleeper and had to be amused all day, every day. He hated his cot so much in the end I got a little camp bed to put alongside my bed, this helped a lot and at least we got some decent hours sleep. He was a serious baby, but once he could communicate better he became happier and by 2 years old was a great toddler. My second son was the complete opposite thank goodness, loved his cot, great sleeper and a happier baby.

I thought crying on waking was the norm for that age .Is it really not?
