Budget hotel recommendations Birmingham?

Hi, DH and I are travelling to Birmingham in 3 weeks for a run in Sutton Coldfield. We are hoping to make a weekend of it.

Can anyone recommend a nice area of Birmingham City centre or just outside to stay? Also if you know of a particularly nice/refurbished Premier Inn or Ibis or something in those price ranges, it would be appreciated.

I stayed in the easyHotel in Birmingham city centre and it was comfortable, clean and very very basic but no complaints.
