Anyone else has taken years out from mumsnet?

OP posts:
Yfory · 28/01/2023 23:21

Thats not just years thats an era!

FreeMyPen · 28/01/2023 23:22

How do you do it ? I’d quite like to !

sevenintotal · 28/01/2023 23:23

I did. I used to post all the time at one point (prob 2010-2018) . Overshared. Relied on MN for support as had none in rl.

Decided to just log out one day and stayed away till very recently and now I rarely post just read threads instead

Yep I did. First here 2003 as a mum of teens and toddler twins. Dipped in and out now back with grand children :)

LipsSoScarlet · 28/01/2023 23:30

I have, but not as many as you. I think I joined 12 years ago and took a break of about 4 or 5 years up until last year. I post a lot less than I used to as well. How different are you finding it 15 years later?

Jux · 28/01/2023 23:33

I registered in 2005, but had been lurking for about 5 years already. I used to post a lot more than I do now. That's largely because I can't afford to update my devices and most can't handle the desktop site so have to use appalling app - it's so horrid there's just no pleasure in it.

Nor can I afford Premium so I can't pm people like I used to, nor search threads as before. Really frustrating after all this time; so I don't come here here that often now. Sad

Ellaskitchensimple · 28/01/2023 23:36

Why?

JumpingSpider · 28/01/2023 23:37

@Jux im pretty sure I remember you (I’ve had a million name changes over the last 20 years). Wasn’t it you who had a very spooky encounter with some supernatural beast? I seem to remember a spooky tale?

asblindasabat · 28/01/2023 23:38

Nope but then I haven’t been on here years, I don’t think.

Btw how the heck did you remember your username and password ?!??

JumpingSpider · 28/01/2023 23:38

And no, I’ve never taken a break from MN! 🙈😂

Is that an app thing? I don’t have a premium membership but can PM people and AS. I use the desktop site on my phone. Can you not do that using the app? That’s really shitty if that’s the case. You shouldn’t be expected to pay for something that people can get for free if they’re using MN a different way.

BlueBooh · 28/01/2023 23:42

I left in a huff at the beginning of covid and obviously announced it in Flouncers Corner.

Came back last year. Apart from the break been on here nearly 19 years 🙀

I don't think I will ever be able to break free ;)

Titsywoo · 28/01/2023 23:44

Never! Joined in 2006 when ivillage was winding down and I was pregnant with DC2. Still here many name changes later and 2 older teenagers. Mumsnet has always been a lifeline!

Not sure. I'll try again, on the app and see, but I usually get a msg that it's only available for premium......

In the early days of mn we could pm if we paid - something like £5 a year - it was called CAT I think? Anyone remember "CAT me" and so on?

I'm on my laptop right now so I'll do a test pm, but it's rare I go to the bother of getting it out, there's nowhere to put it down and I can't type on it without pain so I don't tend to use it.

PermanentTemporary · 29/01/2023 00:32

I flounced for 6 months after reading a relative's insulting post discussing me and my brother with someone else.

Then I came back.

15 years is impressive. Like a movie...

I imagine because you can use your email and reset your password if you don’t remember it. Or because her phone just has it stored. I had to set up a new account because I had a new phone and email address so couldn’t find my own details.

I also ASd myself on the back of this and discovered I’m apparently a terrible troll. It was so weird reading people talking about me years ago Grin

I was genuinely never a troll. Just to be clear.

GruelandaCandle · 29/01/2023 02:06

I have been here about 19 years, I did leave when the site got hacked for a while and again when there was that NYE issue.

JumpingSpider · 29/01/2023 06:56

I remember “CAT me”. Contact another talker I think?

Jux · 25/02/2023 19:37

JumpingSpider, sorry thread disappeared from my device for a while. Spooky encounter? Yes, that was me - a werewolf! Met one near Hampton Court I think it was; it jumped over the wall, about 10ft high.

Hedjwitch · 25/02/2023 19:40

Been on here for years but mostly under another name.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 25/02/2023 19:59

I've been a member for years, and was an active lurker before that. I go through phases of MN bingeing then when I catch myself on here until late at night and obsessively refreshing active I think reet let's knock this on the head haha and then might go months without going on the site. I think I've had spells where I've had a year or so off.
My perception of time has become severely warped since becoming a Mum ha.
