Explaining to SEN child - strikes and school attendance

My 9 year old has a EHCP and we have had a letter to say school (mainstream) is shut to most children on 1st February, apart from those with EHCP and vulnerable children. Therefore it looks like he will be at school but most of his class won’t be.

i am struggling with how to explain this to him. He is not a fan of school, so is going to be upset that others are not in and he is! Any ideas on how to pitch this to him?

My son was in during lockdowns because I was a keyworker and his dad has disabilities and couldn’t cope with him and home learning.

We told him he was going because they were taking a few children who couldn’t work effectively at home and that he was lucky to have been chosen.

He stripped but had to get over it.

Stropped not stripped!

If sending him is likely to cause problems, can you just keep him home? It is an invitation I think, not an instruction.

Do you need him in? Otherwise keep him home for the day.

ds school asked me if he was going in (has an ehcp) but I just told them he wouldn’t be.

I wasn’t sure if it was an invitation or instruction. We will apparently get more details Monday or Tuesday. If there is a choice then I am okay to keep him home as I am working from home.

@Idontmeanto thanks - mine will definitely strop (he saves his striping for home!)

@Sirzy thanks - that is interesting, hopefully the school will send more details. The SENCo may well call me.
