Legislation is being amended to allow parents who were co-habiting at the time of their partner's death to be eligible i(f they meet criteria) for support payments.
Previously only married parents or those in a civil partnership with children were eligible.
There is only a short time scale to apply once the amendment has gone through and people who applied unsuccessfully in the past ( rejected as not married) can apply again.
