I haven't had a period in 10 years and now...

... I've randomly come on. God I'd forgotten what a PITA even an "easy" period is. I used to have awful problems in my teens with feeling sick and passing out at school, but I've been on the depo for years and they disappeared.

Needless to say I got a bit of a surprise yesterday. And I've never known water retention like it!! My feet are so fat it's uncomfortable to walk, I have huge cankles and swollen calves. My bottom half doesn't look like me at all!!

I shouldn't moan as it's not that bad in the scheme of things. I am a little twitchy though as the clinic made me switch to self administration of the injection. It was only my second time doing it myself so I assume something went wrong Confused

Just an early hours rant really. I can't sleep because of my fat feet so I may as well grumble here and hope for solidarity.

I feel similar, you're not alone.
Nearly 50 and no period for 6 months or so then week before Xmas i woke up to it. The swelling was unreal and pain like I've never had before.
I think I'm gearing up for another - I feel like an overpacked sausage, can't sleep, want all the food/chocolate and general arseyness.
Isn't it weird how much the body càn swell.
Thankfully there is promise of alcohol with friends tonight (if any actual clothes fit) but going to be a long day!

Same here. I had a period around week ago, my last was apparently July last year. (Period tracker says).

I hadn't missed the pain. I used to be at passing out point, and would get nauseous, as a girl, and was allowed to go and rest in the dak school library.

@MuthaHubbard overpacked sausage is so accurate Grin I can't even stand on tiptoe my toes/instep are so puffy, and I look pregnant!

@ambientrock luckily I haven't had much pain, just a general achey feeling and the nausea. There's also that horrible realisation that you're never quite 'safe' - I remember always feeling like I was either on or waiting to come on, always having to be ready to be caught short. Luckily I wasn't out and about but that old feeling of avoiding pale trousers and packing tampons 'just in case' is back Sad

If you're having periods after a long period please see a doctor unless the long period involves pregnancy or hormonal contraception.

Wisenotboring · 28/01/2023 07:17

You need to see a dr as this is more likely bleeding due to another cause. Did you really mean 10 years? Make an appointment ASAP and push to be seen quickly. Best wishes.

Op mentions self administration of injection so I'm assuming contraceptive injection hence lack of periods

Sparklfairy · 28/01/2023 07:24

Sorry to clarify, I'm on the depo injection hence no periods for so long. But they moved me over to self administer and I did my second one ever on myself about six weeks ago. I assume I buggered it up somehow and that's how I've come on.

You do need to check with a GP. Please. It's probably, almost certainly, hormonal but it could be something more concerning. Get it checked out.

Bambooshoot · 28/01/2023 13:38

Have you had Covid recently? That buggers up even a regular cycle - I started a new period three days after the last one finished and had horrible nausea - the hormonal kind that you get with pregnancy (won’t call it morning sickness since it’s pretty much all day!). Covid really messes with female hormones.
