Oh god, will this make me sick?

I was hungry and I went to the fridge. There was a pack of turkey slices. I took a slice and it tasted nice and salty and a little bit different too. I was going to get another slice but then I checked the date and it said it is the 24th of Jan use by date.

Oh my god, will this make me sick?

Nope

ThingsChristmasJumper · 27/01/2023 18:55

Unlikely. Usually 3 days at least over the use by date on meat products before they’re likely to become dangerous.

It smells and tastes bad when it's off, you'll be fine.

underneaththeash · 27/01/2023 18:55

Unlikely, unless the dog had a lick first!

If it didn’t taste fishy and rotten then you’ll be ok. Especially with such a small amount. Did it smell rotten? Meat can often be ok after the best before date, I eat it all the time and have never got sick.

No. It tasted ok so it will be. It’s often ok a couple of days after the date.

Thank you so much for helping me tonight and putting my mind at ease

Aww but I can see why you were worried. Food poisoning is horrendous. I did get it once from oysters in a restaurant. But I eat meat past the sell by date all the time.

If it’s well sealed and refrigerated then just use your nose to tell if it’s gone off. Plus feel if it’s slimy, that’s a bad sign. The use by date must be advisory judging from the amount of times I’ve done it and not come to harm.
