Why is shipping on Etsy so high?

I'm fairly new to buying on Etsy but have recently bought a few bits and pieces for a specific new hobby

But why is the postage so extortionate? I understand that there's no combined postage when you're buying from different sellers but even from just one seller it's literally a tenner! And I had four things in my basket from just the one seller recently and the postage was 60 quid! These are small things incidentally

Anyone advise why? Thanks

We’re they in the U.K.? Can you not message and ask for an updated invoice to combine postage? I’ve always found Etsy postage average with other sites or free tbh.

Probably international postage - it's not always obvious on Etsy that you're purchasing from an overseas seller. You can filter your results to only include those that are based in the UK (assuming you are too!)

To answer this it's rather crucial to know from where in the world you're ordering.

I'm in the UK and so are they

  1. you haven’t filtered it to U.K. shops only so it’s postage from the USA or Australia.
  2. Etsy fees are stupidly high!! They charge a 10% fee on top of postage the greedy gits so don’t think it’s the seller being greedy, it’s them trying to make a loss offering the product for sale.

Its because of the etsy fees. A friend sold an item for £25. She ended up with 45p because they charged her for offsite ads which she had no idea about.

I used to sell at a loss on Etsy in some circumstances (postage to US following their rule change) They charge fees on postage too, it's hard to make much profit on Etsy.

So without knowing the item I can't tell you why it is expensive but you could always contact the seller to ask, they might be able to offer different cheaper options.

I used to be asked about this frequently and would know the UK and international postage prices inside out.
