Has anyone hosted a DIY (as in not payed a company to do it for you) cupcake decoration party for 8 year olds? DD’s birthday is in a few weeks, it will be 4-5 friends at our house. My plan was cupcake decorating, party food then dancing/party games. Has anyone hosted a similar party who could give tips and/ or thoughts? I thought they could do 4 each and then they’ll take them home as a party favour.

I think this sounds so fun. Google Images will help with some ideas on how to lay it out. Might be worth seeing if you can buy a few batches of cheap plain cupcakes from Asda, otherwise bake them yourself a day or two before. And there are lots of cake craft places that sell cardboard cupcake boxes/cellophane wrappers so it all looks cute to go home with. Have fun!

I've done this plenty of times but in a very retro / old school kind of way - no kits or anything, I just made a double batch of cupcakes, and then a double batch of buttercream icing divided into a few bowls and coloured with food colouring (eg blue, red, yellow). Then lots of little bowls of sweets to decorate- smarties, flaked chocolate, sour worms, cachous (sp?) etc - you get the idea. No theme, just a total free for all. Lots of fun and the kids could be really creative if they wanted to, or just sit there and munch sweets if they wanted to do that instead.
