PMS

Posting here for traffic.

I have terrible PMS. Terrible. I have gained 3 stones because I can't stop eating for 2 weeks out of every 4. For those 2 weeks I am irritable, agitated, self-destructive, endless negative thoughts, bad tempered, Snappy. Exhausted and overwhelmed, can't trust my own judgment during the 2 weeks running up to my period. It's affecting my relationships with my poor hubby and kids who are endlessly wonderful. This has been getting worse for the past year.

GP has suggested:

A) morena coil
B) antidepressants to take for the 2 weeks running up to my period
C) the combined pill.

I'd really like advice on whether any of these options have alleviated some of the symptoms I'm describing. I've had a blood test and they don't think I'm perimenopausal. Thank you for any advice.

I had the Mirena for my pms and I cannot rave about it enough. If I sound a bit cult-ish I do apologise but it has genuinely changed my life.

My PMS sounds similar to yours and it was hell. I put off hormonal contraception because I thought it would make it worse. I was going to have the copper coil for contraception but when I went in for the consult my nurse told me every single woman at the GUM clinic had the Mirena. I think I was easily swayed 😂

Anyway it sucked having it put in, I won’t lie. Cramped for a day or so after. Had spotting and breakthrough bleeds for around 6-8 weeks after that.

I've had it for 2 years now and the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve forgotten what a period/PMS is. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. The only downside is I can’t blame being unreasonably annoyed on PMS anymore 😂

I really hope you find something that works for, it is truly awful having to put up with living like that for weeks at a time.

Thank you so much. My big concern is weight gain. Did you notice any overeating symptoms alleviate with the coil?

I found that it was easier to regulate my eating because I wasn’t comfort eating when stressed anymore. I didn’t gain any weight and dropped maybe half a stone without trying. Not sure if that’s down to the Mirena or just being generally more happy though

I had it bad. I felt like a mad woman for 2 weeks of every month - I'd overeat too I'd go on a carb binge every month

I got onto a research project at St Thomas's in London. They told me to take evening primrose oil capsules and magnesium, vit b, b6 and vit c and they seemed to work for me

There's something called magnesium ok which is for pms too and has the above combination in it
