I have a massive debt with Next Directory

I owe slightly under £3000 and it's the only debt I have, it's up to date and no defaults etc.

I'd like to clear it this year. For starters I've stopped using it now and I have around £300 to throw at it each month. I can't get other credit to balance transfer.

My question- do you know how the interest is worked out? Can I pay odds and ends throughout the month when I have it (self employed so pay day is fluid) or should I save it and do one big payment on the due date?

Thanks

I pay bits throughout the month.

peaceandpotato · 25/01/2023 14:33

I'd pay it off in bits if it stops you spending the money elsewhere

As long as your meeting your minimum by the date it doesn’t matter how you pay it.

I need to do this too and then somehow stop myself wracking it up again!

It's the second time I've found myself owing just under a grand to Next (no other debt or credit cards either)
I blitzed it the last time but it's crept up again, I'm so annoyed at myself but it's so easily done 😏

Thanks for posting this, it's given me the reminder / kick up the bum to do something about it 💐

This is me too. I've just added an extra payment in this morning . I have no intention of stopping ordering from them - at least with Next if something is no good, then returns are easy . I have wasted a lot of money over the last couple of years when I've ordered from other online retailers and not got round to sending things back within their timescales .

I think with Next you have to beware of ordering too much stuff just to try for styles and sizes as I think they put interest on while you have items - even if you later send them back . I'm going to try to make an additional payment for every thing I buy now straight away to stop the debt going up .

Could you get a 0% credit card transfer? I have done that before to pay off Next directory. At least you wouldn't be paying interest, so it would clear quicker. There will probably be a small transfer fee though.

I think you and the rest of the world tbh .. I work there and the way people use it as a hobby is madness !
I would cancel it to stay with and speak to customer services to find out about interest etc .

Buzzinwithbez · 25/01/2023 15:59

I'd be very tempted to write and ask for the interest charge to be frozen or reduced to enable you to clear it.

gogohmm · 25/01/2023 16:01

Yes send payment as soon as you have anything spare, interest is calculated all the time so every penny reduced helps.
