Health anxiety

does anyone know if health anxiety would be flagged up on my drs notes or on there system? I must admit I have been to the drs a lot but that’s only because I’m going with the same issues all of the time and it never gets resolved. But I’ve read that some drs can accuse you of health anxiety ect and I’m worried it’s flagged up on mine and so they don’t take me very seriously?

With health anxiety you might well go to the GP a lot. But for different things. Each new “symptom” would make you worry you had a different condition. Going back to the GP because an issue hasn’t been diagnosed or resolved is different. Hope you can get it sorted.

I guess it depends - do you have health anxiety or is it reasonable worries? What's the issue and what are you expecting from your appointments?

They probably will say you are anxious because you are

It's really impossible to say with such a small amount of information. But if you feel you are not being taken seriously, perhaps try a different GP/ surgery?

They should help you get to the bottom of it. Whether there is something physically wrong or whether you have a mental health condition, regardless, they should be working to help you understand and resolve whatever is going on so that you are comfortable with the outcome.

If that's not happening then you need to see a different doctor.

My point is that if they are sneakily recording things about you without telling you or discussing it, that is not really good practice.

It's a concern that you are even wondering to be honest, because your care from a medical professional should not make you feel this way. They should be making you feel involved and included.

If they think you may have anxiety then they should be talking you through the options for treatment/ support with that.

Medical records can, from Nov, be viewed online if you are registered in England. I don’t think they would record ‘health anxiety’. They would record that you were complaining of X symptom or were anxious about X.

wow Thankyou for all of your advice and fast reply’s!

basically over the years I must admit I have been anxious about my health and gone to the drs a lot because they havnt gave me answers for example I had to push for a colonoscopy because I was having bleeding ect.. then I found a lump in my boob and been to the breast clinic quite a few times. Now I have irregular bleeding but I’ve had that loads before and I’m sore, anyway my point is I just go an awful lot and I don’t want them to label me as an hypercondriac whe. My symptoms are definitely there

900?! That's an incredibly high number.

Wolfiefan · 25/01/2023 14:44

So you are anxious about your health? That needs addressing. I have breast lumps. Been checked out. All me. Don’t need to go back unless I see something new.

Popcorn213 · 25/01/2023 14:46

Hi I’m struggling a bit at the moment ….I realised the other day that I actually suffer from health anxiety and not general anxiety. I am not a hypochondriac but whenever I have a genuine health issue like a dodgy looking skin lesion, high blood pressure, gum disease, scalp issues etc I move it to worse case scenario. Whilst waiting for the appointment I don’t sleep, stomach churns, can’t concentrate, panic, totally focused on the what ifs ! I’m like it now and feel like crap - I’m going to see GP tomorrow as have odd looking lesion on leg and will mention anxiety too. Does anyone else feel like this?
