Am I a complete idiot - or do these earrings not fasten?

I bought some earrings the other day - they looked pretty, I liked the colour. Stupidly I didn’t check how they fastened, and now at home I really can’t work it out!

There doesn’t seem to be any obvious bit that fits through the ear, and the part that could possibly go through the ear lobe is the completely wrong angle.

I’ve attached a photo - of one earring closed and the other open. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Am I a complete idiot - or do these earrings not fasten?

Those are bonkers. It looks like the maker has twisted the wire without any thought to actual ears!

Just invert them. You have them the wrong way round

@Itsalldramarama Nope! The beads are firmly in place and can’t be moved at all.

I think a hungover earring designer is looking the most likely option.

Is it just the lighting or are parts of the metal turning black? I'm not sure that should go through your ears, it might turn them green.

The fastening makes no sense at all.

If they weren't glued in place, I'd suggest removing the first third, then bending with pliers on the straight side and the loop shaped as per drawing pic.

They've used the hooks the wrong way. They aren't meant to have beads threaded along them. They are kidney shape finding and the whole thing goes through your ear and then the little curved loop bit has a decoration/bead/jewel etc hanging from it

This is how that type of hook should be used. I'd seriously question the colouration of your hooks too. It looks like the plating is coming away. Did you get them from an independent maker/craft fair? If you still have the contact details I'd get in touch with who you bought them from, they are not fir for purpose so need to be refunded

That makes so much more sense. I'm curious where the OP got the earrings from. The person making them is clearly clueless.

Ops earrings are insane. You need to start a thread now on things you've bought that have faults rendering them useless.
I'm big on earrings and I can't work them out. Lovely earrings too.

Yes, these have been made with somebody who has an eye for fashion but hasn't actually tried out the end result! But if you buy some earring hooks like in my photo, you could attach them to your earrings and then they would be usable.

The are missing the hooks. I will go and take a photo of some I have that are similar but have a hook

That's not right either @MissVantaBlack that's two kidney hooks hooked through each other. It looks a bit...mad. definitely not how those hooks should be used. You just need to use that little circle on the Bell to go in the rounded bit on the hook to make it dangle down.

Hobnobs is right. The hooks have been used the wrong way. Plus they look discoloured. I wouldn't put them in my ears!

Well the consensus seems to be that I’m not being stupid, they are just rubbish earrings.

I think it’s the photo that makes them look discoloured, the colour looks fine in real life.

I got them from a pop-up craft-type shop in London. They were only £5 or so, but it’s still annoying when they clearly don’t fulfil their purpose

@HobnobsChoice Your photo with the one bead hanging on the fitting makes sense - it looks like whoever made my earrings just randomly put some beads on the fitting without actually thinking how you’d wear them.

@HobnobsChoice I know the hooks aren't intended to be used the way I have in my photo, but I just thought that this was a way OP could make use of her pretty (but unusable) earrings. I agree it does look a bit mad with just my bell dangling down, but with all those beads it might look OK!

(The "earring" in the photo isn't real - I just assembled it with a bell from my hippy skirt to illustrate my explanation to OP)
