We are attending a christening on Sunday for a 4 year old boy, we're not particularly close with the family. What would you get as a gift?

For a 4 year old I wasn't close to I would either just stick £20 cash or a gift voucher in a card. If you know their tastes, possibly buy a little outfit and a small toy for the child, from from the likes of Sainsburys. If you aren't close to the family I wouldn't go down the traditional route of silver spoons or photo frames or anything like that.

I don't think an occasion such as a christening is about receiving gifts (I couldn't tell you what either of my kids got at theirs) but a token 'something' is always appreciated, I suppose.

It's not really a gift giving occasion, it's about religious affiliation
