Hair loss - help!

Posting here for traffic as I’m getting a bit desperate.

I’m early 30’s and my hairs been falling out for the last 5 months. I’m getting bald patches that I don’t think I’ll be able to hide for much longer. I dread having to wash or bush my hair and wince if my baby grabs it because it just falls out.

I’m postpartum so know this will have contributed to my hair loss but recent blood tests also show my thyroid is hyperactive. I have a history of Graves Disease but my thyroid levels have been normal for many years now.

My GP won’t do anything and says I need to wait to see Endocrinology and that appointment hasn’t come through yet… My ferratin is 25 which my GP says is in the normal range but I know Ferratin needs to be much higher for hair growth.

I’m taking a multivitamin, biotin, vit C, flax seed oil and vitamin E…. I spoke to a pharmacist about shampoos who recommended plantur 39 as any other hair loss shampoos weren’t suitable for breastfeeding. I’m eating a high protein diet.

Sorry about the long post but just wondering if anybody’s been here with hair loss either due to thyroid issues or postpartum and what helped??

Ferritin needs to be a lot higher for hair growth. I’m sure it’s something like 70+ but we are always fobbed off with ‘normal’ 🙄 nice guidelines say for treatment under 30 but it never happens.
You can buy ferrous fumerate OTC now (which is what GP’s prescribe). You need more than a multivitamin to boost your Fermin. Did they check your B12 at all ? Levels are set really low in the U.K. but that can cause hair loss too, as can low vitamin D.

Thank you @ARoughRide I’ll go buy some this morning! I couldn’t figure out what iron supplement was the right one for feratin.

My B12 is 299, which is ‘boarderline’ I think but again GP has said it’s normal.

I did feel a bit fobbed off and my GP are usually really good so I’ll maybe try them again.

I'm 5 months PP and noticed massive hair loss around 3 months PP, mainly around my hairline, I looked like a receding old man!!! Started taking biotin and only took around 3 weeks to notice a good improvement
