Once the investigation is confirmed - how often did you hear from them
GMC, how long did it take etc? Any experience gratefully received!

Are you being investigated or have you made the complaint?
Are you not being supported by union rep?

Sorry, should have clarified that. Made complaint and it’s being investigated

I think they try and resolve issues within 12 months but I imagine there are a lot of things they have to do in the meantime so contact with you wouldn't be regular. Have you called them asking what the process is and when you will hear from them?

I haven’t contacted directly to ask. I’m sure they are swamped so haven’t want to add to their workload. It’s been going on since mid last year and we haven’t heard much

Honestly I would give them a call, they're actually incredibly helpful whenever I have to call them up. Just ask if there is any update on the investigation and go from there.

If you don’t mind me asking, Did you go through long periods not hearing anything and did you get many updates? Or did you need to ask for updates from the case officer? Just wondering if it’s a very long road ahead!

I have experience of making a complaint to the GMC, it wasn’t great. They took 8 months in total to conclude the case but that wasn’t the part that I found difficult. They didn’t do anything with the complaint and I felt utterly humiliated by what they said

I made a complaint to them and never heard another thing about it.
So don't get your hopes up.

I get an email update every 8 weeks from the legal team. This has been ongoing for just over 3 years but I've been told that I will be informed of the conclusion by the end of January. It wasn't me that made a complaint as I was too seriously unwell, but the gmc told me they had an anonymous tip off from another member of staff at the hospital about my care. I've been left with life changing physical and mental disabilities as a result of my care.

Thanks all- you’ve prompted me to ask for an update. I’m really sorry to hear about your experience @TheShellBeach. I can imagine that would have been very difficult to take.

It was very distressing because a GP nearly killed me by failing to prescribe something.
I can't go into details but nothing was done about this doctor and the GMC did not tell me a single thing.
