Sudden alcohol intolerance?

Since the New Year, I've started to have a reaction to alcohol. Regardless of the kind or quantity, my face goes flushed and purple. It's got so bad on one occassion (after only one glass of wine) that I had to take an antihistime as my face swelled and was tight (not to ghoulish levels but noticeably puffy).

Anyone got any ideas why it's happening suddenly? I'm 34 years old and generally in good health. Google says it can happen any time in life and the fix is to simply avoid alcohol but... I don't wanna [stamps feet]

I haven't got an answer but am following carefully- since new year if I have a drink my eyes swell up massively the next morning! Might not be alcohol but seems likely. I hope someone has answers for you.

Sounds as if you've developed an allergy to alcohol. I'd contact your GP surgery and see if you can chat to a nurse practitioner or GP. They might not refer you to allergy testing, but it's probably worth having it recorded in your notes, especially as it sounds like your reactions have got worse each time.

I’d also speak to a GP. It could be caused by other health issues, not just an actual allergy/intolerance.

ive given up too. I got tingling in my face, puffy eyes snd eczema flares on my face.

i rarely drank anyhow but now no alcohol goes pass my lips, my face is clear as day!

I've become more intolerant to alcohol as I've got older. Can start to feel the effects before I've even finished my first pint. I do have chronic fatigue so wonder if it's related to that. I also used to love wine but it gives me palpations and feel really hung over from one glass.
