Please tell me your tried and tested solution to hormonal mood swings?

Since having my second child my hormonal mood swings have gone next level. For about a week each month for 2/3 months I’ll be filled with rage, overreacting to ever slight wrong. Then the next month I’ll cry for a week, followed by a month of nothing. Then the cycle starts again.

I’ve just spent the morning crying and suddenly feel better now my period has just started.

Any recommendations on what I can do/ take to help with the monthly mood changes?

Was gonna say this sounds like pmt, personally for me as a massive sufferer I went on the mini pill, I take it everyday with no break and I have no periods, it's a life changer.

How old are you?

I would recommend taking agnus castus supplement and seeing if that helps

Iv started taking cold pressed starflower oil capsules from H & B . Made a huge difference

I’m 34

St John's Wort really worked for me, but I understand it's not recommended to take it for more than 3 months. I normally use it during the winter months, when I get SAD.

I had to get the Mirena coil fitted and I take the pill 😅 I finally feel pretty normal. I've had one child and I'm 42. The disorder is called PMDD, you should see your doctor 😊

Drink more water and flush the hormones out. More exercise will help too.

I had similar after having kids. For various reasons I didn’t want to go to a doctor, so started taking St John’s Wort. I definitely don’t hit the lows that I used to - still get some mood swings but they’re much more manageable.

Resolve or change whatever is pissing you off. Your hormones may be bringing it to your attention for a reason.

Andsoforth · 22/01/2023 10:49

Talk to your doctor, and be prepared to push hard to be taken seriously. PMD is hell

I agree with the starflower supplements... I was a little skeptical as I'd taken them before and not really noticed the difference but this time i really have noticed that my irritability pre periods is more under control.

It took about 3 months though for me to notice it.

I take this, has really helped my hormonal acne and have been much less noticeably PMS at that time of the month too.

Do you have breaks with SJW? I read online it's only recommended for 3 months max. I am on month n 4 but a bit concerned about stopping.

MyMachineAndMe · 22/01/2023 14:07

Starflower oil and citalopram

Look up the book
no more pms by Maryon Stewart.
I followed it - diet, exercise and supplements. After three months pmt totally gone. The theory is that the babies take all the nutrients they need from you when pregnant. Nutritional deficiencies lead to hormonal imbalance. Diet and supplements help to build up the nutrition deficiency and hormones become balanced again.
