My much loved Dyson vacuum cleaner has died

Sorry probably the most boring thread today! Has anyone switched from Dyson to another brand of vacuum and been just as happy?

I've had my upright Dyson for 10 years and love it. We have 2 cats and a mixture of carpets and laminate and it's kept the house really clean.

I've read good things about Shark but when I went into shop to look at them and get more information the salesman said if I've been used to a Dyson I'll be disappointed. He said Shark are good but suction not as good as Dyson.
Has anyone with pets made the switch?

I had a Dyson which I thought was great on floors but truly appalling using the hose.

I now have a Shark Liftaway which is great on floors and also great using the hose. My cleaner thinks the Shark is superior in every way (if she's happy, I'm happy 😁).

I had the same dilema, my 14 year old Dyson had had it's day. I went for the corded Shark and I'm really pleased with it. It's a nippy little bugger!!!!

I one from an old Dyson to a new shark and it's fab!

I also used to love my Dyson and had an original 01 for years

Miele cat and dog vacuum! Ours is going on 10yrs plus and still works like a dream

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/01/2023 09:30

Miele definitely. Almost too powerful 😁

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 22/01/2023 09:31

Went from Dyson to Miele, never looked back!

My last Dyson was not as good as my first 3 (early adopter here!) so I got a Vax vacuum cleaner which was awful, so I gave it away, and then got a Sebo, which I really like. It's good and robust, and has a strong duck, even from the hose.

BTW, if youre thinking of sticking with Dyson it's worth calling them. They're brilliant at offering good deals on new models, and giving advice on sorting older models.

HPLikecraft · 22/01/2023 09:36

*suck, not duck!

Absolutechaos · 22/01/2023 09:38

Another vote for Miele cat and dog. Way better than my old Dyson.

chinupoldchap · 22/01/2023 09:45

Is it over 10 years old? Or under? Some of the older models had 10 year guarantees, might be worth contacting them, they may replace a part or replace it entirely!
I'm a Henry lover here, small kids and pets mean I need a robust machine.

I was loyal to Dyson for years but since buying a corded shark and winning a Miele I would never touch Dyson again. Both are infinitely superior.

This, 100%. Wasted years struggling with rubbishy Dysons. Never again.

Nannyfannybanny · 22/01/2023 09:55

Am so relieved you said vacuum cleaner! So many people insist on "hoover". Funny, threads on here, you ask about Shark, people start taking about different makes. I have 2 long hair dogs, have had 3 Dysons. They are overengineered and overpriced
I gave one son an LG cylinder I used upstairs, the other a Vax, both lasted 12 years plus. I now have an open plan bungalow, very little storage,a Shark pet, mains wand. I love it. My youngest son has just now bought the shark upright,he has cream carpet (rapid cycle bipolar and OCD) and loves it.

cooldarkroom · 22/01/2023 09:55

My stick dyson had a problem, (no longer under guarantee.) They said it was so old that the part was no longer manufactured. They offered me a new (or possibly reconditioned? But it looked sparkling new, with new wrapping etc.)
For £130.
It wasn't the newest model, but I was happy with that.
I had to return the old one and they sent the free postage sticker.
Dyson after sales service is amazing every time

Thanks everyone, I'll take a look at those suggestions.
It was definitely a 5 year warranty but it's actually nearer 11 years old now. I went for Dyson because I'd had 2 Hoovers in a row that lasted under 3 years (with 2 year warranty Hmm)
It's good to hear some people have successfully "gone over to the other side"
