Just that. We have 2 young DC and a dog, live in the countryside, enjoy walks and take a couple of UK holidays a year.

Need a car that is cheap to run as poss with a big enough boot for everything.

Budget is 6k top as well 😂

Have been looking at Skoda roomsters and yetis but haven't found any around here.

My friends Skoda Octavia Diesel has a huge boot & is incredibly economical car to run. Not sure how old it would need to be to fit your price range though.

Also not sure how the unleaded version compares.

good luck!!

I had an Octavia and it was the best car. So roomy, seats go down, very good mpg. Now have a qashqai and I miss the versatility of the Skoda

Dacia Logan MCV. Not pretty, not many frills, but extremely practical and pretty cheap to run - ours is a 0.9 litre, tax is £20, but it has a lot of torque as it has a turbo. And the boot is huge!

I loved my VW Passat estate, which I think is basically the same car as the Skoda Octavia estate. I would definitely choose and estate rather then an SUV. I traded for a Tiguan because our dogs were gone by then, but I really, really miss the Passat's boot!

CampervanQueen · 22/01/2023 06:53

We have a Skoda Octavia Estate diesel and it's great. Fits our DC, lab x GSD and all the associated muddy walking paraphernalia with ease. Relatively cheap to run.

TunnocksTCake · 22/01/2023 06:54

Seat leon estate is what I ended up with when I really wanted a Octavia! I think it's like a golf estate with a seat badge and its boot is HUGE!

DeadButDelicious · 22/01/2023 06:56

Seconding a Dacia Logan! Not a fancy car but it's got four wheels and it goes and the boot is enormous!

jazzyoldjim · 22/01/2023 06:58

I am cautious about getting an estate because I've only ever driven little cars up to this point. Also will be my partner's main first car as he's just passed his test.

I’ve gone from a Micra to the Logan and it’s fine. The visibility out of the back is very good for reversing, better than our other car (a Nissan Juke). The only thing that gives me pause at the moment is that we have a tow bar and I don’t want to bash it - but I’m getting the hang of it.

The other big advantage of an estate is that it’s lower slung, so much easier for dogs to get in and out of. Less stress on the joints etc. I hated ddog jumping of the juke as it’s so high, and he refused to jump in, I had to lift him. He’s a 26kg Labrador… my back definitely likes the estate 😂

We had an octavia years ago. It was great. But they are expensive.
What about a Ford focus estate? They are pretty decent and you may get a decent old one in budget.

Mol1628 · 22/01/2023 07:08

In that budget you’ll be able to get a Zafira.

I went from driving an Aygo to a Zafira, it doesn’t feel big to drive but the boot is massive! Very practical for dogs.

HappyHolidaysEveryone · 22/01/2023 07:24

Second the Dacia Logan. We've had ours for 5 years now and really like it. The boot is bloody massive. Like PP, it's a no frills car but it's been really reliable for us & love that no matter what we're doing we can just chuck everything in the back. Cheap car but does the job.

I came to post this. I've had loads of cars from Fiestas to huge old Landrovers and not even the Landrovers could beat a Zafira for boot space! I've moved house with one and there were far fewer trips than you'd think.

Simonjt · 22/01/2023 07:28

Mondeo, cheap to buy, very reliable, boot so big you have to physically get inside to reach things at the back.

lemonyfox · 22/01/2023 09:51

Hyundai Tucson has a huge boot

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/01/2023 09:54

You don't have to stick to the rooms yet. Most Skodas have pretty big boots in comparison to other brands. Plus great value for money and very reliable.

BamBamBilla · 22/01/2023 09:56

Citroen Berlingo. It's basically a van with windows so the insurance is cheaper.

PaniniHead · 22/01/2023 09:56

Peugeot 3008

MaverickGooseGoose · 22/01/2023 10:24

Zafira. The boot is massive, much bigger than an estate. Fugly but nice driving position and economical.

DottyLittleRainbow · 22/01/2023 10:28

Another vote for a Dacia Logan. Huge boot, economical to run. And soooo reliable, ours is 7 years old and no major issues so far.

My Vauxhall Zafira was an absolute money pit and I would never get another.

CrepuscularCritter · 22/01/2023 11:07

We also have an Octavia, and the boot is massive. Before that, we had a Superb. Its boot was so enormous that I at 5'9" could not reach the very back and had to use a big umbrella to haul things forward.

mycatsanutter · 22/01/2023 11:09

The boots on Mazda 6's are big, we got all camping stuff in for 2 tents and 4 people

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/01/2023 11:10

Lexus Rx400 hybrid. Huge boot, very reliable. Mine is 15 years old. Starts first time, every time, all it’s needed is 2 battery changes and replacement tyres. The back seats flip down so you can get a bout or bed/large wardrobe, whole load of rubbish for the tip in the back.

MargaretThursday · 22/01/2023 11:13

We have a Zafira, and it's been great. Never run out of boot space with 5 people.
Hardly ever goes wrong and nice to drive.

pawprintseverywhere · 22/01/2023 11:14

Astra GTC SRI huge boot I fit 3 lurchers in it comfortably
