Shark brush roller not turning

PrinceHaz · 21/01/2023 21:12

Vacuum cleaner made a loud whining noise then brush roller stopped turning. Vacuum still comes on and vacuums a bit of dust but roller won’t turn.
Manual isn’t giving a definitive reason.
Is there anything I can do before taking it to a repairer?

Check roller is not jammed full of long hairs?

PrinceHaz · 21/01/2023 21:16

I think there’s nothing there. Seems like it might be a motor issue.

You need to take both rollers out and clean them.

Mine did this yesterday too. I had to snip some hair out, and also reposition the rubber washer like thing on the end.

It gets choked on hair. You need to cut the hair that is wrapped around the roller and pull it out. Gross job, but you have to stay on top of it.

Take it to pieces and check all the pipes and filters. I usually find something blocking something.

Mine was choked full with dust and fluff after only a month.

Take the base plate off but unscrewing the yellow discs with a penny (or a table knife) and spend an extremely satisfying 10 minutes cleaning out the head!

Mine has done this twice and I've had to have a new floor attachment each time. Fortunately it has a 5 year guarantee so Shark just sent them to me. I have to say I'm not at all impressed, we've had other things go wrong with it too. I'd never have another one.

Hi

i recently had the same issue high pitched mechanical type noise for a second then brush roller warning went red and didn’t spin.

had the hoover apart so many times trying to fix it in the end it was the bearing in the brush roller which had seized so wasn’t turning (wasn’t even turning by hand) i bought replacement brushes from eBay around £13 for both brushes and £8 for next day delivery.

Hope it’s something simple like that for you xx

This happened to mine after around six years of daily use. It turned out that the hose had split.
I bought a new head for it and it's been perfect ever since.
They're less than £40 on the shark website.
