First time trip to New York Recommendations

Am looking to book our first trip to NY, not a super adventurous person so looking for a central location.

Any hotel recommendations?
3/4 or 5 nights
Attractions hit or misses
Broadway show and places to each (NY deli type and bars suiting middle aged ladies)

Any suggestions would be helpful 🙂

We stayed in the Westgate, near to Grand Central Station. It's a lot quieter area than around Broadway, and obviously transport is no problem (although this was in 2019 and I believe the subway is less safe post Covid).

Highlights for us were a guided tour of the UN, the Ellis Island museum and a trip out to Queens to watch the NY Mets.

Didn't do bars as was there with the DC, but the basement of Grand Central Station has a food hall which had loads of different street food vendors and was very reasonably priced for NY.

Our highlights were Ellis Island, the 911 museum and the Tenement museum in the Lower East Side, particularly the guided food tour of the area.

Food wise there is just so much to choose from in every budget, but Ella's Stardust Diner was a favourite - the waiting staff are all Broadway wannabes who sing and dance while you eat. Was really fun!

Cold Stone Creamery (ice cream chain). Not what you asked, but so good!

Ellen's Stardust Dinner (Google it)

Staten Island Ferry its free and good views of Statue of Liberty and back towards Manhattan Skyline.

Go over to Brooklyn its a different vive and some nice restaurants and bars cant remember the name of any particular ones.

When are you going? We have a first time trip coming up and I'm also busy planning! Really want to do a walking tour - ideally a foody one! And we're going to a baseball game.

Thanks for the tip about the GCS food hall - will check that out!

We went up the Statue of Liberty 🗽 and really enjoyed that. We wanted to walk the Highline but it lashed it down three out of the four days we were there. Greenwich Village is worth a mooch.

We did a brilliant food tour with these guys, was in Greenwich Village which really opened up that area to us

Would really recommend it.

Another vote for going up to the top of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island - really great day out!

We went up the Empire State Building at night when the queue was significantly smaller.

I'd recommend a hotel in Manhatten not Brooklyn. So much easier to pop back for an afternoon rest.

You've got to eat at Wolfgangs. The best steak I ever had
