Fractured/Broken Bones Buddie?

10 days ago I fractured my tibia at the ankle joint in two places Sad.

It's probably been made worse as I was initially told it was just a bad sprain and that after resting it that day I should be up and walking on it normally. Which I attempted to do for a couple of days before luckily going back for a second opinion where an x-ray discovered the fractures.

Am now in a strictly non weight bearing cast and waiting on a date for surgery. I think they said it's a pilon fracture.

Am just about managing to stay sane...but I wondered if there is anyone else out there in a similar situation? We could be recovery buddies Grin

Hi, how are you getting on? I have a fibula fracture and I am waiting for consultant appointment to see if I need surgery. Feeling quite sad but proud of my kids who have been amazing doing all the jobs for me around the house. My arms and hands are exhausted using the crutches

It's tough going isn't it!

I had a check up and will need surgery but they can't fit me until next week.

Just about staying sane at the moment...

How are you doing with your crutches?

Struggling a bit with the crutches. They really tire me out. And muscles in other leg hurting now!
I am thinking about getting a cheap wheelchair- currently using office chair to get around in the kitchen. Not really all that sure if I am supposed to be trying to weight bear through the boot a bit or not. The nurses weren’t very clear. Looking forward to getting more clear plan from consultant

So after they confirmed you need surgery what sort of wait was it? About 10 days wait until they can fit you in?

PenguinsCantFly · 25/01/2023 15:33

I'm not allowed to weight bear at all and am in a back slab cast, and I feel you pain with the crutches. They really are draining to use!

I got hold of a fold up wheelchair which was been really handy for the hospital appointments (rather than hunting for one in the hospital).

I've had to wait 2 weeks since injury before surgery to make sure a swelling had gone down. I'll get a call the day before they've got a space to book me in.

Hopefully, if you're in a boot you might not need surgery - fingers crossed!

Yes I am hoping that I don’t need surgery. Although a friend told me when they put pins in it tends to speed up the healing so maybe there could be benefit to that in some way

It’s funny I almost had the same as you where the nurse told me it was only sprained and almost told me off for being a wimp and said I needed to walk on it more. Luckily they also did X-ray it to though just to be sure !
