Getting a passport - can I use my maiden name?

To revert to my maiden name do I need a legal document?
Can I apply for my passport (and slowly change everything else - driving licence, bank account etc) using my birth certificate and bypassing my marriage certificate?

Oh that’s a shame!
What a lot of stuff to gather up to prove I’m the person on my birth certificate ☹️

Maybe just be aware that if you have an existing high street bank account they will want to see your divorce cert to change your name , unless you want to use a deed poll instead . A new passport / driving license won’t show the link from your existing married name to revert back to your maiden name . However you could open brand new accounts with the new ID instead , but be aware you can’t switch an account via the switcher service if they are under different names , so you would need to reset direct debits etc manually.

Thank you for that.

It's quite a while since I did it, but honestly it was easy. Started with the Passport first. At the time they didn't have a form that covers this so they just said to write that I was reverting to my maiden name and enclosed Marriage certificate that had both names in ( though it would if been on my Passport records)

Once I had the new Passport it was easy to change other stuff except Sky who got arsey

Also should add.... Most institutions will assume you are changing on Divorce ( you didn't specify) and some do quiz you on the reason. I wasn't divorced so just told them them I was reverting to my maiden name.

Having my marriage certificate was useful as it had both names on so maybe do it while you still have this
