What the hell eBay?

Yesterday I set up an eBay account for the first time to sell one of my husband's old computer games. I followed all the instructions, the listing went live..... 14 minutes later and I'm permanently suspended. For what? I emailed, they asked for i.d. Then they phoned me, took more details from me then told me again that I'm permanently suspended and that's that. They won't even tell me what I've done wrong. Their emails just say that my activities pose too big a risk and I'm a danger to eBay. Has this happened to anyone else?

Did you have a user name that could possibly be deemed offensive?

Tamarindtree · 20/01/2023 18:40

I can buy and sell on eBay but I am banned from posting on their community boards as I had a run in with an American moderator who took massive offence at the photos of vintage saucy postcards I had posted! The type you used to buy on a stand outside every beach shop here in the U.K.!

I never lasted long in my Cunt flaps Mcginty days.

My name was lindelady19. I don't think it's offensive but maybe eBay do? I've used a similar name for other platforms for years.

I've stopped using eBay. I'm using vinted now and it is soo much easier than eBay.

I guess Americans don't always get our sense of humour. I like a saucy postcard😉.
I didn't even get a chance to offend anyone, I just tried to sell an age 12 rated game. I wish I could have spoken to a moderator rather than just been told that I'm a danger.

I tried to sell a couple of items on ebay - completely innocuous stuff like clothes and a similar thing hapoened to me, except I never got a chance to sort it out, it was just 'we think your account is dodgy, bye'. No idea why, nothing about my account or username could be considered dodgy.
I won't use them now even for buying unless no other option.
DH can sell stuff on it fine. It's really random.

i had listing removed the other day because...

"We had to remove your listing because it didn’t follow our VeRO Unauthorised Item Policy. Unauthorised copies or counterfeits are illegal and not allowed on eBay"

I had listed something that said explicitly "Not Lego but Lego compatible."

You can sell HP compatible printer cartridges, you can sell Brio-compatible wooden train track, you can sell rain covers compatible with certain prams, but fgs don''t sell "Lego compatible" toys on eBay. Who knew, right?
