Neighbours using bins

Has anyone had trouble with neighbours using their bins? I put my recycling bin out the other day and when I went out it hadn’t been collected because someone put 2 black bags of rubbish in it. My council have recently changed the rules that if your bins are contaminated 3 times they confiscate it and you are not allowed it back. I don’t know who it is but have my suspicions. Bin locks won’t work as I don’t know what time the bin men come it’s different times and very early hours so I put my bin out the night before. I was thinking of putting it somewhere else like at the side of my house but not sure it will be collected 😩 has anyone had this and come up with a solution?!

I have had this once in the past, I had to knock on neighbours door and tell them to come and get their rubbish back.

What CFs!! I'm not 100% but I think you can get bin locks where they unlock when the bin is tipped upside down?

Put a sign on it as well, smile you're on cctv might do the trick 😬

Bin locks have a mechanism that will release when it's tipped by the bin lorry so you don't need to worry about unlocking it for them

I’d go through the bags and look for letters with addresses on

We did have a right cheeky bitch live next door to us a few years back who once her bin was full would go out in the dark and put her rubbish in other people's bins on the street, she always denied it though

Ring doorbell to identify them

You need to search for "gravity bin locks" OP as some do still lock in the traditional way

Yes and then report them to the council, I've done that in the past.

i have a neighbour so this, I saw him do it.. I took it out and put it on his property. Find out who it is and give it back.

Spanielsarepainless · 20/01/2023 18:27

Our old neighbours did this, but I saw the cheeky cow doing it. After she went back indoors I took great pleasure in chucking a selection of plastic tat in front of her car. Find out who did it and dump it somewhere inconvenient. The bags might even get split in the process.

SinnerBoy · 20/01/2023 18:29

On two occasions, I've taken the bags back and emptied them all over the property.

My neighbours filled my bin with bricks and heavy waste once. Nearly damaged the lodger when he put it out as it was unexpectedly heavy.

After that we took it through to the back as soon as it was emptied, and put it out when it was full, just before the lorry came, it was a pain but stopped lodger getting a hernia.

install a Ring camera then put it back on their drive. Hopefully the foxes will have a good dig overnight

NotThisShitAgain121 · 10/01/2026 18:23

Get a video camera and film who is doing it, show them the footage and tell them you are going to report them then put the rubbish bins back on their doorstep.I would say to them if it carries o that you will be posting the footage all over social media. Cheeky bastards.
