Can I take Sudafed whilst pregnant?

Hi all,

does anyone know if it’s ok to take a couple of doses of Sudafed whilst pregnant?

Their leaflet just says to talk to a doctor. No doctor at my surgery is going to be available to answer such an inane question in the middle of the day.

Thanks

I’d check at your local pharmacy but I don’t think decongestants are recommended particularly in early pregnancy.

I’ve heard it recommended for when you’re not breastfeeding and want your milk to dry up, so I probably wouldn’t risk during pregnancy! Could ask a pharmacist though?

No I had terrible sinusitis during pregnancy and the pharmacist could only offer olbas oil

I’m 29 weeks.

Yes perhaps I’ll have to venture out to a pharmacy

I'm pretty sure it's contraindicated, I know they wouldn't sell it to me in my last pregnancy

Thanks all.

Paracetamol and olbas oil it is :(

Here's a fact sheet on the risks and research so you can make an informed decision for yourself.

For me, the utter misery of my sinuses outweighed a very small, largely unproven risk. But I know other people would have a different opinion.

Feel better.

@Duttercup thank you so much for this

I avoided it and found the sterimer nasal spray surprisingly effective.
